Helplines Australia is recognised as the main source of specialist information relating to the setting up and running of non-profit helplines in Australia. We hold information on over 500 services across the nation.
We are the lead provider of advice, consultancy, advocacy and training on matters relating to the provision of quality helpline services for the voluntary and statutory sectors.
Our members include most of the national helpline services such as Kids Helpline, Lifeline and Quitline as well as many local and regional services. Between our members we estimate handling over 4 million calls per year.

Helplines Australia Committee 2009
Helpline Australia recently held their annual AGM. As a result a newly elecetd committee will begin in January 2009. We would like to Welcome Maxine Rosenfield as the new President of Helplines Australia, as well as Emma Ward (Hepc Council) and Victoria Dolphin (NSW Cancer Council) to the committee.

Helplines Australia - National Research
Helplines Australia research committee have completed their National Research into determining the levels of skills and professional support required to provide psychological support to the public using only telephone and/ or electronic media. The research was designed to identify the specific skills sets and make key recommendations relating to compentencies.

Grief Line Closing
Grief Support, which has helped tens of thousands of people during three decades, looks as if it might have to close its doors. Strapped for cash, the organisation was set to close its doors at the end of June, but it has agreed to battle on for another six months in the hope of finding extra funding.
National Problem Gambling Hotline
A NATIONAL problem gambling hotline has been set up after federal and state ministers agreed. Family and Community Services Minister Jenny Macklin said a national website would also offer counselling to problem gamblers. Problem gamblers will be able to log in and ask for advice 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The ministers have also agreed to a national hotline allowing people to seek help through a counsellor in their state or territory by ringing one number - 1800 858 858.
